In this dynamic sequel to The Lightning Thief, Percy Jackson is sent on yet another whirling adventure across the world of Greek mythology. Percy discovers in the first book that he is not just an average teenage boy, but is actually a demigod and the lost son of the great Poseidon. He is introduced to this new world of myth and legend, and expected to step in as the demigod that he is. Here, in The Sea of Monsters, we find our hero gaining confidence and reputation as he continues to mature in this strange realm.
This sequel presents Percy with two major challenges. First, his friend Grover (a Satyr) has been taken captive by a Cyclops and is in desperate need of saving. Second, Thalia (a demigod previously transformed into a pine tree) is dying and needs the long-lost Golden Fleece in order to be revived. Percy realizes, through a series of dreams, that Grover may have found the Golden Fleece. So, along with his fellow demigod friends Tyson and Annabeth, Jackson sets out to rescue Grover and recover the Fleece from the Sea of Monsters, the treacherous place where Grover is trapped. Along the way, the company encounters a number of unsavory characters, old and new, and fall into dangers fitting for the mythos from which this epic tale is derived.
