The ending spoiled it for me. It would have been much more narratively sound to have the poor unfortunate prisoner killed at the end, rather than being improbably rescued. (That's a 150 year old spoiler for you)

I enjoy reading Edgar Allen Poe's short stories because they're eerie and mostly gives off a gloomy feeling/mood. His writing stle is rather interesting and keeps me guessing about what's to come next on the following page!
