Set in 18th century Scotland, Gabaldon's thrilling historical saga Outlander has bewitched fans worldwide. In this fourth installment of the Outlander series, we once again share the stories of Jamie and Clare as their romance travels across time into pre-Revolutionary America, where they attempt to build a new life together on the frontier of American soil.

This is the third time Claire has used the ancient stone to travel to the 18th century. First was when she fell in love and almost lost it in order to save their unborn child. The second, she reunited with her love but had to leave her daughter that would always feel fatherless. Now, Brianna, who is living in the 1960's, just might discover an obituary which will change her mind about her and her parents' history.

Diana Gabaldon was born in Arizona in 1952. Her novels are a blend of the romantic, historical, mystery, adventure and science fiction genres. Her degrees, including a Ph.D. are all in the biological sciences. She served as a full-time assistant professor at Arizona State in the Center for Environmental Studies, where she performed research and became an expert in scientific computing and databases, while also teaching university courses on anatomy. She has written multiple articles for computer science publications. With the finalization of her first book deal, she resigned as staff at the university. She lives with her husband in Arizona and has three adult children.

Romance, history, and time travel blend once again as the couple builds a new life together in the wilderness of pre-Revolutionary America. Twice Claire has used an ancient stone circle to travel back to the 18th century. The first time she found love with a Scottish warrior but had to return to the 1940s to save their unborn child. The second time, twenty years later, she reunited with her lost love but had to leave behind the daughter that he would never see. This author has a real talent for perfectly blending historical fiction, romance, fantasy and science fiction into a truly enthralling story. This book kept me transfixed throughout which was no small feat given the immense length of the story.

This an extremely long book but well worth the time investment. If you can set aside the time you'll be rewarded with a magnificently crafted story. I truly enjoy the author manages to weave such a complex tapestry of well-developed characters and rich history. A truly stellar achievement that's worthy of 5 stars!

The first half of this book was somewhat slow-paced, but once it got going in the last half it more than made up for the slow start. Another winner from Diana Gabaldon!

I've been a faithful reader of the previous Outlander books but this one really didn't hold my interest. Too many details that weighed down the actual story and WAY too long. Seriously this book could have been much improved by trimming nearly half of its length. This book is only for the most die-hard fans.

This book was responsible for many nearly sleepless nights as I could not bring myself to turn off my iPod and stop listening. The story was absolutely fascinating and I kept wanting to find out what would happen next. I can't wait to start the next book in the series!

I love historical fiction so this series is just my thing. Once you get past the slow start this book offers a great story and it's a worthy addition to the Outlander series.
