I thoroughly enjoyed the second book of Abarat. It picks up right where the first book leaves off, and continues with Candy Quackenbush's adventure through the islands of Abarat. This book helps us understand the origins of some of the main characters, such as Candy, Carrion, and the Princess Boa, among others, while introducing some new characters and making old characters more prominent, such as Deaux-Deaux, the Sea Skipper.

I first came across the Abarat series in 2003, when my girlfriend bought the first book for me. I read it within a year, and was of course enchanted by the world, the prose, and of course the artwork.
A couple years later, I found this book, and bought it. I didn't re-read the first one before diving in, and maybe that's the reason I didn't finish.
Now, six years after that, I've found out about Absolute Midnight, and reminded about the wonderful world of Abarat, I've decide
