FAQs for Downloadable Audio Books

  • How large are your audio book files? These files are available in 4 different file sizes to suit different device capacities. The rule of thumb is that larger the file, the better the sound quality. For example the unabridged audio book "The Graveyard Book" is 7 hours and 47 minutes long. The size of the downloadable audio book at the lowest quality setting is 29MB. At the highest quality setting, the same audio book is 224 MB. For CD quality sound each file requires 28.8MB of space per hour. For mp3 quality sound they require 14.4MB of space per hour.

You can download and listen to audio books on your Windows PC (Windows 7, Vista, XP, 2000) or Apple Macintosh computer (Mac OS X 10.0 and above). You can also burn audio books as standard audio CDs using the free software that you’ll receive when you purchase a title.

  • I've occasionally encountered audiobooks that are read by computer, are any of yours recorded in this fashion? No, all of our audiobooks are read by people. In fact, many are read by professional narrators, famous actors, celebrities, and even the authors themselves!
  • When I click the "Download Now" button I'm taken to a blank page. Why isn't the button working? Ad blocking software such as "Spybot Search & Destroy" sometimes misinterprets our link structure and may interfere with linking to the intended target page. The solution is to temporarily disable any software of this type. (NOTE: Remember to reactivate any software that you've temporarily deactivated.)
  • How can I tell if an audio book is abridged or unabridged? The "format" field in each audiobook details section will inform you whether an audiobook is abridged or unabridged.
  • What is the difference between an abridged and unabridged audio book? An abridged book is a book that has been shortened or condensed by using fewer words while still retaining the sense of the original work. An unabridged book is the original, untouched book that has not been condensed or shortened.
